So, your book is done, written, edited, and now available for sale on Amazon.com and other online bookstore outlets ... CONGRATULATIONS! Now what? TIME TO MARKET YOUR BOOK! When it comes to marketing your book, there are TEN KEY AREAS of book marketing you should keep in mind. Preparation and participating in all key areas helps ensure you make boatloads of book sales, you elevate yourself as an expert in your field/industry/genre, you increase demand for your services and other products (if you have any to offer) and so much more. Before hiring a publicist or even asking for assistance with your marketing, be sure you understand and are ready to address each of the following essential book marketing components. Doing so will ensure anyone who winds up helping you with your marketing can really assist you, maximizing all marketing efforts performed. No matter how you go about promoting your book, first you need to prepare an author website, press room, online author press kit and prepare for being interviewed by the media and other companies who wish to help you promote your book to their audience.
This is the next step after you've build your press room, press kit and prepared yourself to do interviews, and that's to get your social media accounts setup, customized and ready to roll! For the most part, remember to activate the big ones:
Perhaps you've never thought about this before, but there are dozens of associations and organizations, which you can join, that would love to hear from you, hear about your book and what you have to say about the topic you wrote about if it relates to or can help their association members. To find the associations and other groups that might be interested in inviting you to speak before their members or even showcase you inside their newsletter, perform a search for your book's category + the word "associations" or "organizations" and see what comes up. Research them, contact them, join them, and ask to speak in front of their audience of association members.
Don't let anything stop you, start speaking! You don't even have to leave your house! You can start promoting your book over the telephone or via webinar with people who have lists of readers/subscribers who would be interested in hearing about your topic.
On the heels of conducting multiple virtual book tours, take that same fill-in-the-blank worksheet/handout you created for your virtual book tours and start using them in a real, in-person speech before a live audience. Speaking is one of THE BEST WAYS to promote your book and get attention for it. When the media picks up on the fact that you're wowing audiences from locally, and in other parts of the country, wow, you just increased their interest in interviewing you. Create believers in your book with tons of speaking.
Nothing beats receiving an order for 100 (or more) books from one person, company or other entity. Note, there are single sales, and there are what they call "large quantity book sales!" Who buys large quantities of books?

OUCH! How will you go about fulfilling orders or paying your bills? Exactly!
You're not going to go out there and promote your book and spend all that time, energy and money promoting it without having any other products / services to sell to people, are you?
